The Risians (occasionally Risans) are a humanoid species from the pleasure and recreation planet Risa. The Risan language is not spoken by many non-Risians, as most visitors do not bother to learn it. Risians are extremely close to Humans in appearance, but do have a small mark on their forehead as well as a different internal biology, which rendered Human treatment at Risian hospitals difficult in the 2150s.
The "Festival of the Moon", or Lohlunat, is a very popular celebration among the Risian people. The mysterious sexual practice of jamaharon is considered extremely pleasant -- wanting it is indicated with a statue called Horga'hn, which has become a symbol of the culture on the planet.
