Occasionally spelled "Risian", the Risans are a humanoid species native to the Federation planet of Risa.
Though they strongly resemble Humans on the outside, their internal organs and layout are quite different.
Risans tend to wear a small gold-colored disk, called a "ja'risia," on their foreheads. Risians also apparently age at a slower rate than humans.
The Risan language is not spoken by many non-Risans, as most visitors to the planet do not bother to learn the language for the sake of a simple vacation.
Known History
Centuries ago, the Risan people were able to tame the earthquakes and heavy rain storms that plagued their planet.
They installed seismic regulators for the earth, and a weather control system for the atmosphere, and by the mid-22nd Century, Risa had become a well-known, high-class,
highly-trafficked vacation destination.
Culture
The Risan people are known for their open, sexually permissive culture. They are also known for being diligent and proud of themselves for providing the ideal vacation experience.
A symbol of Risan fertility, the "horga'hn", is often displayed as a miniature statue, and embossed on many Risan building walls.
Anyone who displays a horga'hn statuette does so as an indicator to their openness of sex, the Risan word of which is "jamaharon".
The "Lohlunat," or "Festival of the Moon", is a popular Risan celebration celebrated at Suraya Bay.
