1803 – Physicist Christian Doppler is born. He was the first to describe how the observed frequency of light and sound waves is affected by the relative motion of the source and the detector, now known as the "Doppler effect."
1961 – Enos, a chimpanzee, is launched into space, and he becomes the first chimp to successfully orbit Earth.
