Zaira was born and raised on Betazed where she enjoyed a happy and fun filled childhood especially when she got to visit Earth and spend time with her paternal Grandmother Alannah Morgan. The old woman would encourage and help the young Zaira when she struggled with both the Human and Betazoid sides of her, teaching her techniques to relax her which worked the majority of the time. Zaira loved these visits not only for the help her grandmother gave her which remained with her but also the delicious cakes and the stories she told which always cheered her up. Zaira loved these visits as that's where she also developed her love for reading and watching old Earth movies and she was absolutely devastated when her grandmother passed away when she was 10. The techniques that had been shown to her became more useful when she reached the age of 14 and developed mild empathic and telepathic abilities which she found difficult to control at first until she remembered those exercises and learnt to control them.

After graduating from the Academy, Zaira soon received her first assignment as a Medical Midshipman aboard the USS Copernicus. Her arrival saw her thrown in at the deep end a little as she was called to take part in her first ever away mission. Two planets with one of them pratically dying due to an unknown drain on the Star they both orbited. She was part of Commander Roland's away team who went to the unaffected planet after receiving a distress signal.

As she got older Zaira decided to put her caring and understanding nature to use by helping and observing her mother in the medical facility where she worked and decided that’s what she wanted to do as a profession. However, when she was 16 her priorities changed slightly when she met and fell in love with Christian Grix. They were friends at first but it developed into something more serious after spending the majority of their time together and she loved how he surprised her with romantic trips and picnics under their favourite tree. She had never experienced anything like it before and was left heartbroken when she was forced to call it off because of being promised to Jarell. She had never liked the man her mother wanted her to marry as she found him obnoxious and arrogant and knew that her heart belonged to the more care free, rugged and handsome Christian but there was nothing she could do. The arrangement didn’t go through after her father saw how upset and utterly devastated she was after Christian left  and convinced her mother that she be allowed to marry whoever she wanted. Her mother agreed but it was too late to find Christian especially when he told her that he never wanted to see her again.

This resulted in several injuries, the most severe of which belonged to a Security officer, that Zaira as the only medic, made as comfortable as possible. She never found a replacement for Christian not that she ever could but hasn't given up hope that she will find someone to love and care for.

During this mission, she was also reunited with her old Academy friend Mike Hobritz, when he joined as the new CE.

Again this mission involved two teams, one helping with the transwarp gate construction for the return journey and Zaira going out with Sallea and a few other officers. This ended up with Sallea being injured when they came across a strange probe and a possible link to the Grazer weapon used in the Krynar War, which had essentially destroyed the entire solar system and damaged the Dysprosium. However they were able to make it back as the Copernicus mounted a rescue mission for those who had encountered trouble with the lead construction ship.

Once everyone was out of danger, they returned to Starbase Alpha and Zaira's position became permanent. This was also about the time where changes happened to the Fleet and they were reassigned to operate out of the newly constructed Pioneer Outpost.

Whilst a team was dispatched to the surface to try and locate the missing Scientists, Zaira, Zach and her department were left dealing with parasitic worms that killed several crew, injured others, almost destroyed Sickbay and severely damaged Engineering. That only happened once a way was found to destroy the creatures and the image and noise it made, still frequented Zaira's nightmares.

Personal History

After graduating from the Academy, Zaira soon received her first assignment as a Medical Midshipman aboard the USS Copernicus. Her arrival saw her thrown in at the deep end a little as she was called to take part in her first ever away mission. Two planets with one of them pratically dying due to an unknown drain on the Star they both orbited. She was part of Commander Roland's away team who went to the unaffected planet after receiving a distress signal.

This was something that she didn't have to really think about, especially when their shuttle was forced to crash land. This resulted in several injuries, the most severe of which belonged to a Security officer, that Zaira as the only medic, made as comfortable as possible. Then just when she thought things couldn't get worse, they were escorted to meet the Mechanoids who had been responsible for bringing the shuttle down and essentially they became their prisoners.

She was able to save their crewman before this happened and the truth came out as another shuttle was sent to help them, including meeting the natives that had created the Mechanoids. It turned out that they had reached sentience and their creators wanted to destroy them and that they were also behind the drain on the Sun, as they were building a ship in order to leave their planet.
