Personal History

Ebrel's family line is filled with a history of persecution and prosecution during the Bajoran Occupation. With ancestors born into labour camps and distant lines part of the rebel groups that fought against the Cardassians.

The Kaiya's traded in on what they knew best during the Occupation – killing. At times killing Cardassians, at times Bajorans, other times it was those who simply got in the way. When the occupation ended they found it hard to reinsert themselves into 'civilised' living.

“No Kaiya was ever born to make pottery or work the land,” was a common thing her mother would say.

The Bajoran government held trials to prosecute those who had committed crimes during the Occupation and many of Ebrel's ancestors were found guilty, shaming her family line forever. Her earring marks this burden for any fellow Bajoran to see.

But that didn't stop the Kaiyas.

Ebrel's mother became a paid assassin. She assassinated political and religious figures alike for the person who paid the highest. It was what she had been taught to do. Her Bajoran trade. And she was good at it.

Falling pregnant with Ebrel had not been planned. Her father had been a political figure that Dani had been paid to kill and to get close to him she had slept with him.

Despite this Dani raised Ebrel with a lot of love and compassion and when she was old enough to hold a gun, Dani began to teach her 'the trade'. When Ebrel turned eight their small home was raided and Dani was arrested and prosecuted.

Ebrel was put into schools and shuffled from foster home to foster home. Most families found her to be quiet and reserved but she had an angry streak that continued to surface. Her marks at school were high, despite the many disruptions and one particular Councillor encouraged her to look at career paths that would allow her to break away from Bajor and her past.

She applied to a number of institutions including Starfleet. When she received acceptance into Starfleet Academy she jumped at the opportunity deciding it would be the ultimate 'break away'.

During her time at the academy she kept to herself and made very few friends. Her grades were standard but not amazing. When it came to performance though she excelled. Hand to hand combat, weapons, sniper training and similar classes and programs seemed like second nature.

After graduation she was assigned to Sierra 18 under then Chief of Security, Lt[JG] Sienna Tam ( Tam, Sienna ). A few months into the assignment a confrontation occurred involving a domestic. Ebrel was the first on the scene and beat the perpetrator within inches of his life.

Lt[JG] Tam ordered a psych evaluation and for Ebrel to be reassigned. As it was her first 'black mark' Starfleet assigned her to an open Security Position on the USS Gettysburg for a 'second chance'.
