1859 - Physicist Henry Louis Smith is born. He is credited with making the first X-ray photograph, as well as the first clinical use of X-rays.
1889 - Physicist and electronics engineer Vladimir Kosma Zworykin is born. Known as the "father of television," Zworykin developed an electronic scanning television system using his innovations, the iconoscope and kinescope, the forerunners of today's television camera. He also invented the electron microscope.
1971 - Using NASA's Apollo 15 module, the first Lunar Rover lands on Earth's moon.
2020 - NASA's Mars 2020 mission launches. It was tasked with finding signs of habitable conditions on Mars in the ancient past, as well as evidence of past microbial life and water.
