1933 – Aviator Wiley Post returns to New York City, completing the first solo flight around the world in seven days, 18 hours and 49 minutes.
1994 – The last of the large fragments of the comet "Shoemaker-Levy" struck Jupiter. This image of this collision shows a bright point about 44 degrees south latitude on the far side of Jupiter from the Earth.
