An isolation suit is a type of clothing used by the Federation Star Fleet.
It is equipped with holographic technology which makes the person wearing it practically invisible, except to properly equipped monitoring stations.
Star Fleet uses isolation suits when observing a pre-warp civilization in order to prevent cultural contamination, in accordance with the Prime Directive.
Isolation suits use holographic technology rather than a cloaking device to achieve their invisibility, since cloaks are outlawed by the Treaty of Algeron.
