Personal History

Ren was the product of a long term scientific mission in the Northern Wastes of Andoria. Her mother was an Ecologyst and was fascinated by the Aenar, a very small sub-species of the Andorians. This species lived in unique, harsh conditions and were completely blind (clinically speaking), yet survived. It took a number of years to even gain enough trust with the Andorian people to allow a meeting. After this was accomplished however, her research project found it's roots and she spent the next ten years studying the Aenar. Eventually she fell in love with one of the Aenar musicians, and eventually they were married. It wasn’t long after that Ren was born.

When Ren was just five years old her father went on a hunting trip. There was a terrible accident up in the cliffs and he was killed. So wrought with grief was Giana, (Ren's mother) that they returned to Earth to live with her parents as she couldn’t continue with her project. Giana eventually lodged papers on the data she had collected but not for a number of years. After a period of time Giana accepted a basic research and development position at a local medical facility but they continued to live under her parents roof.

This period of transition was difficult for Ren. The many different cultures on Earth was overwhelming. Not only that but those living on Earth had little to no knowledge of her own culture which often left her on the outside. She wasn't completely blind like the full blooded Aenar but could see colours and movement, she could hear and smell a lot better then others and then there was her telepathic capabilities – not as strong as the Aenar but still enough to put those who hated such things on shaky ground with her. Of course the Aenar culture dictated that to use her telepathic abilities on someone without first gaining permission was akin to breaking their highest law – most did not know this, or believed it wasn’t enough to deter her from using it.

Despite this she found that she shared her mother's love for the research of cultures and discovery of alien environments and seemed drawn to understanding other species; perhaps because she herself felt so misunderstood. During her schooling she learned of Starfleet and it's amazing medical and science research facilities as well as it's standard mission to find new planets and cultures and explore new lands.

By the time it came to Ren having to decide on the direction her life was to take she had settled on Starfleet. During her first year in the Star Fleet medical program she received news that there had been a terrible accident at the lab that her mother had worked at and that Giana had been killed. It held Ren's studies up for a few months as she dealt with the loss but it didn't stop her completely.

Soon Ren finished her degree and obtained her first mission in Starfleet on a science vessel. The next ten years were spent researching, exploring and developing until the Commanding Office for the vessel retired and the vessel was decommissioned. With new orders to now report to the Intrepid Ren was uncertain, she was a seasoned and experienced medical scientist and Starfleet officer but she was had spent a long time on her previous placement. The Intrepid was alien and new to her, the crew she knew very little about and the Intrepid was anything BUT a science vessel.

In any case orders were orders and follow them she would.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Molecular Biology, Gene Therapy, Microbiology and Toxicology
Academy Minor(s): Xenobiology, psychology, surgical training
Hobbies and Pastimes: Running. Listening to Andorian music. Any activity that's quiet and relaxing and forces her to switch her brain off.
Short-Term Goals: To become comfortable within the new assignment Star Fleet has given her
Long-Term Goals: To obtain a high enough rank to run her own medical science team on a science vessel
Personality: Ren is very certain of herself. She thinks hard before speaking or acting which at times makes her appear slow but such assumptions are quickly put to rest when they hear what she has to say. She speaks softly and mostly not at all, choosing mostly to speak only when she feel it necessary which gives her a timid appeal but she has a strength and backbone to her that shows when it needs too.
Sense of Humor: Not one to crack to many jokes, she isn't slow on getting them.
Phobias: heights.
Likes: The snow, Eketha and research/reading
Dislikes: People who judge her before getting to know her, or people who judge anyone
Achievements: Obtaining the rank of Petty Officer Second Class and maintaining a solid career in Starfleet
Disappointments: Her parent's deaths
Illnesses: None
Strengths: She has a determination to her that will force her through most problems and allows her to tread where most wouldn't
Weaknesses: At times she keeps to herself too much and this alienates her
Fears: Often she fears failure when a task is put in front of her but very little scares her. After her fathers death she has never been too good with heights.
Prejudices: None
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: When off duty she wears dresses made from Andorian fabrics as other fabrics don’t feel “quite right” against her skin.
Distinguishing Features: At times people seem to be startled by her eyes; especially when she is talking to someone but not looking directly at them.
Pets: Malamute Husky (pure white with ice blue eyes) called Eketha
Friends: a few childhood friends but no one too special or to close

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Death of her parents
Best Time: Graduating from Starfleet and obtaining her first assignment
Most Crucial Experience: Her fathers death which forced them to move to Earth and forced her out of her comfort zone.
Role Model: Her mother
