The Chalnoth are a warlike, warp-capable species native to the planet Chalna.
They do not believe in government, so their society exists in a state of total anarchy, where only the strong survive.
They are large, hairy beings with a fearsome appearance, and have been described as "nasty-looking brutes." They have a muscular build, and two sets of protruding tusks, giving an intimidating presence. Their eyes appear red and yellow, contributing to their animal-like aura.
Chalnoths are carnivores, relying on a meat-based diet for sustenance. However, their dietary requirements are unique, and they cannot consume typical edible substances. Instead, they subsist on the flesh of humanoids or even sustain themselves with the unconventional choice of a Bonsai tree. Notably the Chalnoth had a short window for survival without food, typically lasting only three to four days.
Chalnoth society contrasts many other known civilizations, and operates in a state of complete anarchy. They do have not have any governments or centralized authority. Their society believes that only the strongest individuals thrives, and the cutthroat environment fosters a culture of self-reliance and dominance, where physical prowess and survival instincts were paramount. Cooperation and collaboration are rare, and each Chalnoth fends for themselves in a harsh and unforgiving world.
This species' and its planet's history are unknown, with even its own inhabitants keeping little to no records.
According to Federation records, a Chalnoth named Esoqq was abducted in 2366 and replaced with a replica, along with other individuals, including Captain Jean Luc Picard.
Somehow, this species was warp-capable.
