Betreka Nebula

The Betreka Nebula is an interstellar gas cloud, located adjacent to the Klingon Empire and the Cardassian Union.

Incident:

This nebula was the site of the "Betreka Nebula Incident," a conflict between the Klingons and the Cardassians over the planet Raknal V, and the wreckage of a Klingon fleet there. It began an eighteen-year-long conflict, considered a cold war between the two powers that lasted from 2328 to 2346.

In 2328, the Cardassian starship Sontok found the remains of a 1,000-year-old Klingon starship, while scouting the planet Raknal V. The Klingons and Cardassians fought a brief battle in orbit of the planet. The Cardassians were initially pushed back, though they returned with reinforcements, which caused the Klingons to retreat towards the Betreka Nebula. Seven Klingon vessels subsequently ambushed the nine Cardassian vessels.

During the battle, a Klingon ship then decided to do a suicide run, as its warp core was breaching. This, combined with the release of a damaged containment unit from another Klingon ship, left only two ships left from their respective fleets.
