Personal History
Matthew was born and raised close to Tampa, FL. His brother, William was born five years after, and his sister followed a couple of years after that. One day after school, Matthew was heading home and cut through a small orange grove. While walking and eating an orange he picked from a low branch, he heard shouting. He made his way to the sounds and saw a group of about four boys surrounding another boy. Matthew recognized four of them from his own school. They were shoving a boy he hadn’t seen before. Finally one of them punched the stranger, he took the punch and swung back, knocking the aggressor down. The other three jumped on the new kid and started to punch and kick him. The first thing Matt done was pick up a rotten orange, and throw it. The orange caught one of the aggressors right in the face, quickly Matt threw another and another. The four ran off. Matt went to help the new kid up, he wasn’t hurt bad, just a few bruises. He thanked Matt and introduced himself as Thomas. After that, they became fast friends, spending most of their free time swimming and fishing.
Matthew started to have a real interest in his father’s work by the time he was a teenager. He read just about everything in his father’s study about starship design. He made up his mind to join Star Fleet by the time he was 14. He convinced Thomas to join him. By the time they graduated from high school at the age of 17, they both had applied to Star Fleet. Matthew was turned down because of an error in his school transcripts, and Thomas was going delay his entrance into the Academy, but Matt convinced him to enroll. Later that year, a shuttle carrying a group of cadets to a tour of the shipyards orbiting Earth malfunctioned. All were transported off, except two one was Thomas. With the loss of his friend, Matthew decided to give up on Star Fleet and enrolled in the University of Florida.
Matthew excelled at his classes at the university. He also met Colleen there, and the two got close fast. They decided to marry after they graduated. At the age of 20, in the last year of school, he decided to pursue his degree in Engineering, so decided to enroll in Engineering school. Upon hearing this, Colleen called off the wedding, because she said she couldn’t wait four more years. After the breakup, he just decided to work for his father’s company. When he was 22, the stars started calling him again, so he applied to the Academy again. This time he was accepted, and started on his way to completing his degree in Engineering.
