Personal History

Born to a pair of botanists, Asfar had a conventional upbringing travelling around the Federation visiting many different planets with his parents during the course of their work.

He was however, a bit of a loner during this time, not really having time to meet up with a make friends of his own age with all the moving about.

It was while travelling between postings that the young Asfar was introduced to engineering by necessity. The vessel his family were travelling on had stopped off briefly to observe a stellar eruption when the ship, an old 23rd Century transport, lost primary power. Due to a modification of the EPS layout, the engineering staff couldn't reach the effected section because the location was too restrictive.

Asfar managed to convince his parents and the Captain that he could squeeze into the area and make the repair for them. It was successful. For the rest of the journey, and subsequent trips, he began spending time with the engineers learning what he could until the day he was old enough to attend the Academy.

After graduation, he was assigned as a Midshipman to the USS Medusa, a Zeus Class Cruiser. His career here wasn't ground breaking, but he did through hard work achieve the rank of Lieutenant (jg) and held the position of Gamma shift supervisor.

It wasn't until it was suggested that there may be an opening aboard the newly commissioned USS Nikola Tesla that he even considered the possibility of moving on in his career having become rather too comfortable where he was.

His first mission aboard the Tesla was a simple survey mission in the Shackleton Expanse. [FILE SECURED. ACCESS DENIED.]

It was about this time he began a relationship with another of the Tesla's engineers. Ensign Karai of Vulcan.

The next deployment was a rescue mission. A medical frigate, the USS Nightingale had crossed into the Romulan neutral zone. Whether by accident or design, this was initially unknown. Resulting in the medical vessel being disabled by a Romulan vessel.

The Tesla was deployed to give assistance and recover the Nightingale.
