July 20 – The human race, represented by astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, lands on the Moon.
At 02:56 UTC on July 21 (22:56 ET July 20), Armstrong takes the first human step on the Moon's surface.

The "Allende meteorite" explodes over Mexico.
The largest carbonaceous chondrite (a class of primitive meteorites) ever found on Earth, over 2 tons of this meteorite were recovered.
It was often described as "the best-studied meteorite in history." The Allende meteorite had abundant, large calcium–aluminum-rich
inclusions (CAI), which are among the oldest objects formed in the Solar System.

Surgeons Denton Cooley and Domingo Liotta implant the first temporary artificial heart.
