  • Probe "Luna 10" is launched. It becomes the first spacecraft to enter orbit around the Moon.
  • For the first time, an artificial heart (albeit partial) is permanently installed in the chest of a Human.


Special Note:

  • September 8:
    "Star Trek" premieres on NBC in the United States with its first episode, titled "The Man Trap".
    The episode is actually seen first on September 6 on CTV in Canada.
