Personal History

Born to Anita and Brian Thomas in New York State, Jace Thomas grew up in a relatively happy home. Her mother was an artist, who taught private lessons, and her father was a high school chemistry teacher. She grew up in an environment which encouraged learning and creativity, and as such, she was free to try her hand at as many different instruments as she wanted, although she found that she preferred string instruments, piano, and flute. She was always a little headstrong, but her parents were able to encourage her to use this character trait in the best way possible, giving her the courage to think critically, and to respectfully question scenarios her teachers in school would present if she found them to be contradictory to the lesson at hand, etc. Bubbly, energetic, and fun-loving, she was generally well-liked, although her temper could sometimes get the better of her. Although she had many people she considered friends, she was closest with another girl from her class, Aimee Jackson. The two seemed like an odd pair to some, as Aimee was much taller and stronger than the petite Jace, and her interests included sports, whereas Jace was more interested in the arts and music.

One dream they shared, however, was going to Starfleet Academy. They used to take trips to the countryside at night just to lie in the grass and stare up at the stars, speculating on what they might find if they were to travel the universe. Aimee’s decision to go with Security was a natural choice, given her athletic ability and strength, but Jace’s decision took a little longer to come by. She knew that she wanted to be in the heart of exploration, and so was tempted to major in either Security or Science, but during a trip to a Starfleet museum, she found herself in a replica of a ship’s bridge. She was drawn to the consoles which controlled the ship’s movement and weapon systems, and became swept up in an imaginary scenario in which her ship was being attacked by three smaller mercenary ships. Her captain gave her the order to act as though fleeing from the ships, which caused them to speed up to follow closely behind, and then perform a Cochrane Deceleration, which put all three ships in a vulnerable position for a barrage from her ship’s forward weapons. After firing, the captain then ordered her to speed up and get herself in position to perform a Theta maneuver, and she was just about to fire as many of her weapons as she could lock onto her enemies when Aimee grabbed her arm and tugged her over to a display of model ships, snapping her back to reality. The rush that she had felt just from her imagined scenario cemented the decision to apply for a Tactical position within Starfleet.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Starship Tactics
Academy Minor(s): Security
Hobbies and Pastimes: Playing various instruments, including violin, piano, guitar, and flute, reading (when she can sit still long enough to do so)
Short-Term Goals: To continue practicing her instruments, perhaps setting up some sort of band or orchestra on ship…
Long-Term Goals: To ensure the safety of her shipmates at all costs, someday receiving recognition for doing so that she can then proudly show to Aimee in hopes that it would help relieve some of the guilt she still feels.
Personality: Friendly, a little wound-up
Sense of Humor: Jovial, quick to laugh.
Phobias: House centipedes.
Likes: Anything adorable, but corgis especially, trying new foods.
Dislikes: Rudeness, irresponsibility, people who let their talents go to waste.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People who complain so much and so often that it brings everyone around them down.
Bad Habits or Vices: Worrying, assuming the worst.
Achievements: Sitting first chair in her high school’s orchestra (playing violin) when her orchestra won a state-wide contest.
Disappointments: Being invited to go on an international tour with her state’s orchestra, but having to choose between doing that and going to Starfleet Academy at the same time Aimee went.
Illnesses: Nothing notable.
Strengths: Good at getting along with people.
Weaknesses: Being a bit too quick to anger, techno-babble.
Fears: Letting people down, not being able to help someone in need.
Prejudices: None that she has encountered so far.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Jeans, leather jackets, boots
Distinguishing Features: Oval birthmark on her left cheekbone just below her temple
Friends: Aimee Jackson

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: The sudden death of her grandfather while she attended Starfleet Academy, with whom she had been very close. She almost decided to drop out of her classes for the semester, but her friends and classmates rallied around her and were able to help her out of her misery.
Best Time: After winning a state-wide contest, her high school’s orchestra was able to take a mini vacation to the Quebec area, where she was able to meet and play a duet with one of the most famous violinists on Earth.
Most Crucial Experience: Visiting the Starfleet museum with Aimee and realizing that she wanted to become a Tactical officer.
Role Model: Her grandfather, who was an engineer and inventor who always took the time to show her around his workshop, patiently answering any of the (multitude of) questions that she would always excitedly ask, despite often being in the middle of a crucial process. He taught her as much patience as her energetic self would ever be able to muster up.
