Solar sail

A solar sail is a structure that forms a method of propulsion, based on the reflection of photons.

Bajoran lightships have been known to be equipped with solar sails, which can be individually ejected in the event of an emergency.

• As early as the 16th Century (Bajoran time), these sails were discovered to make a ship capable of travelling faster than light speeds, making interstellar travel possible.

In 2371, Benjamin Sisko built a lightship with a solar sail for propulsion after a visit to Bajor, and took it out into space with his son as a traveling companion.
