Personal History

Early Life

Before his teenage years Thompson's parents left Simon to stay with a family friend before leaving Earth to go to Risa for a holiday. The parents were killed when the shuttle exploded on the journey to the planet. The cause of the explosion was never discovered, or so Simon was led to believe. Obviously Simon was very distraught when he heard the news. This was roughly the period when he started doing things on his own more than taking part in group activities.

Due to his deceased parents friends having relations in Star Fleet, Simon grew up hearing many stories of other life and other space adventures as he called them.

Star Fleet Academy

Thompson was not an outgoing person during his school years. However with the help of peers and tutors at Starfleet Academy his desire of working alone more than as a part of a group started to become less. Thompson had decided to join Star Fleet so he could get a chance of life off planet and had been encouraged by some at the Academy to try at positions in the Science Department. This was ignored as he felt a career in Tactical or Security would be more interesting than a career in Science.

Space Station Sierra 18, SS-18

Before he could join the crew of the USS Titan, Simon had to travel to Space Station Sierra 18. During his time there a nurse affected by recent Romulan war had become medically unstable and during an incident in which Thompson helped the crew unfortunately he was incapacitated and was left in a coma for a few months. Simon, therefore, missed out on serving on the Titan's first mission.

Thompson was still on the Starbase at the time the crew of the Titan believed they had to leave Sierra 18 on an emergency.

However, much to their embarrassment and Thompsons amusement, the incident turned out to be a holodeck exercise which the new First Officer was in charge of.

USS Philadelphia, FF-6053

Thompson received new orders to join the crew of the USS Philadelphia at Starbase Alpha. However they would be without a Captain and First Officer until joining the USS Nova which was the lead ship in the Flotilla.

En route to the meeting of the ships the Chief Medical Officer as acting First Officer gained approval from the Chief Security Officer whom was Acting Captain at the time for a party to be held so the crew would get to mix with each other.

Thompson however had volunteered for bridge duty at this point during which there was an unfortunate incident where a crewman had decided to take his own life. The incident affected many of the crewmembers.

First Mission

The Philadelphia complete with skeleton crew arrived at the prearranged meeting point with the USS Nova and various other ships belonging to the Flotilla.

On arrival the ship was advised against approaching during negotiations though once these ended the crew was joined by their new Captain, First Officer and others.

The ship was ordered to investigate a star system that had appeared from an aternate universe. A space-faring civilization had been detected, and they were sent to make First Contact.

While enroute, they stopped at Carraya to attend a Star Fleet Command briefing.

Arriving at the mission location the crew met the Gondwanans during an exchange in crewmembers.

Whilst most of the crew thought of the Gondwanans as large spiders they were in reality a cross between a lobster and a spider in appearance. They were huge beings, but also seemed very peaceful and were willing to arrange a First Contact meeting.

While Admiral Grayson was on planet with an away team, a faction of Gondwanans known as the ‘Neos’ launched a probe-like vessel from the planet that attached to one of the Gondwanan research stations causing the energy beam to strike the Nova. It instantly wiped out all the Nova’s electronic systems.

The USS Nova had to be evacuated after and the away team was recalled from the planet to help. The Gondwanans also helped house some of the refugees on one of their stations. The Philadelphia was unable to take any of the Novas crew at this time.

On discovering the Neos had some kind of genetic disease that was changing their appearance and abilities, the Philadelphia crew was ordered to land on the island that housed the infected Neos, and that they would send a research team over consisting of both Pegasus and Philadelphia team members.

Thankfully The ship landed with only minor difficulties, including a damaged landing strut that was quickly repaired. An away team was sent to the facility, but problems with the Gondwanans in orbit and on the Pegasus caused them to quickly get recalled after finding out very little. The Philadelphia was forced to return to orbit only a few hours after it had landed.

In the end, it turned out that the Gondwanans did not have a disease at all, but instead the Neos had been changed deliberately sometime in the past, and the genetics had been passed down through the generations.

Unfortunately, the Star Fleet crews could do nothing about it because they were asked to leave Gondwanan space and return only when asked by the Gondwanan government. What’s more, the planetary system ended up reverting back to its original space, leaving behind as system with a primitive species similar to the Gondwanans in nature.

Second Mission

In response to a distress call from the planetary Government of Carraya IV the USS Philadelphia plus other 4th Fleet ships and the USS USS Ticonderoga, CA-1471 of the 2nd Fleet were ordered to end their Shoreleave with immediate effect and undock from Star Base Delta.

Whilst en route each ships Commanding Officer met via a holo-conference and were able to analyze the distress call to determine that Carraya was under attack from a hostile force. Carraya, which has a history of conflict with oppressing forces, most recently had freed itself from Klingon control. Although not confirmed the group of ships began working on the assumption that the Klingons were once again attempting to gain control of the Carrayan System.

The journey to Carraya was spent running drills and preparing for a multitude of scenarios including space battle, ground battle, and a variety of humanitarian and aide giving scenarios. Whatever the USS Philadelphia faced they wanted to be as prepared as the potentially could.

Upon arriving to the Carrayan System the USS Philadelphia and other vessels were able to positively confirm that it was indeed a group of Klingon's laying siege to the Carrayan system. The Philadelphia was sent along with the USS Armstrong to gain control over a mining outpost in the Carrayan asteroid field.

The Philadelphia attempted to contact the mining outpost, but received no response. A boarding team was assembled, but they never got to launch as three Klingon destroyers began to attack the Armstrong. The Armstrong was boarded and then nearly torn apart as two of the destroyers tractored it. The Armstrong crew attempted to escape in pods, but were fired upon by the Klingons.

The Philadelphia managed to free the Armstrong using a graviton particle beam, and crippled one of the destroyers. The other two left the Armstrong to attack the Philadelphia, and they managed to disable the port impulse drive. Other problems with a sensor and equipment dampening field created by the Klingons left the Philadelphia vulnerable to boarding.

Two Klingon boarding shuttles attacked the Philadelphia, ripping holes in the Bridge and Engineering to gain access. Through heroic efforts, teams on the Bridge and in Engineering managed to repel the boarders and free the Philadelphia. Help from the Sheridan ensured that the Klingon destroyers fled.

The Philadelphia was crippled in space, but through help from the Austin and the Salem they were able to make enough repairs to get towed out of the system, and then warp home to Star Base Delta. There, the ship was fully repaired for the next mission. The Philadelphia never was able to find out what happened at the mining outpost.
