Shore leave

The term shore leave is used to describe vacation time spent away from a Federation starship, starbase, or other Starfleet posting.

During such time, participants are relieved from their normal duties, but can be recalled at any time by emergency or the will of their commanding officers.

Shore leave can also be compelled upon an officer, at the judgment of either the chief medical officer or the commanding officer.
