Scalos is a class M planet located in the outer quadrants of the galaxy, and was the homeworld of the humanoid species of Scalosians.

This planet was devastated by volcanic eruptions, which contaminated all water with radiation.

The radiation sickness caused all the inhabitants to be infertile, and caused them to "hyper-accelerate."

Scalosians' bio-chemistry had accelerated to a point that they experienced hours the way other lifeforms experienced minutes.

The people now extinct, the planet had no apparent animal lifeforms and sparse vegetation.

After Starfleet's official investigation in 2268, the Federation quarantined the planet.
