Personal History
Jack was born in London, but spent his childhood living in Moscow, Tokyo and Sydney according to the needs of his father's work, a government scientist. Jack was never very aware of the type of work his father was involved in, except that it was for the most part classified. It was interesting travelling the world, Jack learnt several old earth languages, and for the most part life was good. However, the family situation started to degrade when he was in his early teenage years. His mother, although a kind and caring person, began to be severely abused by Jack's father, Tom, who would regularly confront her with physical violence. It was a sudden change that had come across Jack's father, apparently inexplicable, and at any rate difficult to understand. Rose, too scared to leave her husband and desperate to protect the children, hid her suffering until it finally came to a bloody culmination when Jack was 14. He found her body slumped on the kitchen floor; his father had disappeared. Jack, scared and unsure what to do, ran away with his brother and sister. After hiding in the streets of Sydney for a night, they found their way to their uncle's house. The crime was reported, and the police found Rose's body. His father was never found, and for obvious reasons was assumed to be the murderer. Jack grew up with the attitude that he would make the most of life, and pursued his ambitions to travel the galaxy as part of Star Fleet.

Most Painful Experience: The death of his mother.

Most Crucial Experience: As morbid as it may sound, the death of his mother and the following period in which he struggled to look after his younger siblings. He learnt that fundamentally life is unfair, but that you have to make the most of what it gives you.
Role Model: His mother, Rose. She endured incredible suffering and tried to do the best for her children at all costs.
