MFW-1 Multi-Function Weapon

From Federation Space - Official Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The MFW-1 Multi-Function Weapon is the first in its line of fire support weapons systems. Designed to meet or exceed the needs for any previous fire support system, (light, medium and heavy weapons) the MFW-1's relative ease of operation and versatile applications make it both cost effective and tactically proficient as a Corps-wide standard issue weapons system. The MFW-1 can be operated by a single marine, or in a two-marine pair at the fire team level, mounted on vehicles, or in a stationary fire-support position through the use of a collapsible bi-pod or marine-portable tripod.

Capabilities and Functions

The system fires pulses of high power phaser energy automatically for as long as the trigger is depressed. The MFW-1 is not designed for less-than-lethal implementation because it operates strictly at a lethal power level. The four settings dictate the rates of fire and the automatic cooling settings of the weapon. The four external muzzle cooling elements are extended away the muzzle to allow for more cooling ability if needed when employing faster rates of fire. When retracted toward the muzzle the elements deactivate.
