Divisions of the Imperial Navy

Unlike Star Fleet or even Romulan ships, there are no real departments, any Klingon officer may be called to serve in any aspect of a ship's operation.

With the recent needs of the Klingon Navy, new recruits are being rushed to the front lines. Training at the Imperial Klingon Academy is broad but incomplete. There is much about serving on a Klingon vessel that is not covered. New recruits on a Klingon vessel have only rudimentary knowledge of things such as Operations (Tactical, Engineering, Security), Science, or Medical.

In order to learn what they need to know to serve the Empire with distinction, new recruits are assigned to an officer who will train them in what they need to know.

Operations Officer

The Operations Officer is in charge of keeping ship operations running. Operations is responsible for the coordination and synchronization of daily activities aboard a ship. These activities consist of ensuring that the vessel is in perfect operating order. The individual skills of the Operations Officer can range from strictly tactical based to strictly engineering based, though most are trained in some aspects of both. Assault teams, search and rescue, and ship's security fall under Operations' purview. The Operations Officer is responsible for the ship's crew, and is in most occasions (as on the IKV Dreamslayer) the Executive Officer.

Engineering Officer

The Engineerig Officer is in charge of keeping the ship itself running. Emergency repair teams, fire suppression, and maintenance (including energy weapons) are also this officer's responsibilities. The Engineering Officer has advanced training in Operations.

Science Officer

The Science Officer is in charge of sensor analysis as well as examining any unusual phenomena or new technology. The Science Officer also has some training is Operations and Engineering.

Medical Officer

The Medical Officer treats the sick and injured crew. Because of the general disregard Klingons have for their health and well-being, this officer must be aggressive when treating the crew. They cannot wait for the injured or sick to come to them, they must be ready to hunt down their patients like targs to a new kill. While the medical officer has no real authority on a Klingon vessel, they are respected enough by the crew that their orders are at least listened to, if not always followed. Generally, the Medical Officer has no other responsibilities, but still has rudimentary knowledge of ship operations.
