Personal History
For as long as Henk could remember, piloting was his absolute and only interest, as a child he drove his parents mad visiting airplane museums, landing strips, the European space administration museum, anything piloting related. When Henk was given presents, it would better be either a jet, space-ship, jet-engine-powered-car, Boeing, space-shuttle, anything that would require a focussed pilot.
Combined with his education, he took on a commercial piloting course, attempted to combine it with a military piloting course (and succeeded), and managed to attend school all together. His parents were certain that one day, he would collapse but they were wrong. His absolute and undying energy concerning his motivation piloting anything within his reach gave him a source of infinite energy to carry on.
To his deep disappointment, Starfleet rejected (more than ten times) his application due inexperience and age, however this added to his will to proof to Starfleet (more to himself) that whatever machine he was presented, he could pilot.
After finishing university, studying aerospace engineering and sciences, his next step would and should be turning enough heads getting him into Starfleet. He proofed via a simulator that in impossible situations he was able to steer a ship through any given almost impossible situations. Eventually, to his exploding satisfaction he was invited and was allowed to enrol competing with many, many other pilots for a position aboard one of the few starships now exploring space. To him, space wasn’t the final frontier anymore, it was within arm’s reach …
