Personal History

Honey spent a mostly happy childhood growing up in one of the nicer areas on New Angeles with her brother Sooksa, (also known as Baby.) Their comfortable status was due to her parents’ high ranking jobs, her father having qualified as an Engineer and Information Technology Expert, and her mother as a Doctor and Diagnostician.

Her father Teddy was pregnant with Baby when the Tenctonese slave ship crashed on New Angeles. Fortunately for his wife Vesna, she wasn't with them at the time and received the name Emma. They were later reunited however they couldn't find their eldest son Flessva, who had been taken away at the age of ten as was usual practise on the ship. They later chose to have another child and Teddy, having the same sense of humour as the humans who had named him, insisted on calling her Honey.

Sooksa was born a Binnaum, a Catalyst, and chose when he was older to enter the monastery to follow his calling, he is now known as Binsooksa as befits his position. Honey misses him a great deal as they were always close although most of the prejudice she experienced when growing up was related to him and despite being younger was often his protector. Sooksa was always suited to his calling, a very peaceful and spiritual young man, in contrast to Honey who was quick to respond in a physical manner. They took Kung Fu classes together because it provided extra defence and the teachings were compatible with their own beliefs.

With her brother gone Honey began to realise that she had no calling of her own. Having listened for the past few years to some of the stories of a retired Star Fleet Officer at her martial arts classes, she came to the conclusion that becoming a protector of the people who had given her family sanctuary would be a fitting career choice. She asked the old Admiral to sponsor her application and was thrilled to be accepted. Honey’s parents were supportive of her decision to enter Star Fleet, though they still don't understand her desire to be on a starship instead of a planet, and it’s not likely they'll leave their world again.

Although her father had shared some of his computer engineering skills with her, and she showed some promise at an early age, she didn’t have his passion for it and Security seemed like a better fit, her natural superior abilities making it easy for her. Her teachers let her complete the theory early and take additional classes, allowing her to drift into Tactical studies so that she graduated as a specialist in both.

Her first assignment was, disappointingly, at a remote Starbase and undistinguished aside from using some of the things her father had taught her to enhance their security systems. She acquitted herself well however and was promoted for her efficiency in carrying out her duties. Shortly after achieving the rank of Lieutenant she was recruited by SOCOM.

USS Columbia

Bear was temporarily recruited as a mission specialist aboard the USS Columbia to obtain a Dominion smart weapon originally developed by a Tenctonese engineer… her father. The crew’s mission was to buy the weapon from a Ferengi Trader and Honey was to find ways to disable and contain it. With one of the Columbia’s engineers, Lewis, she set up a holodeck program to run scenarios for disabling the weapon but they weren't working as expected. She later realised that the holographic weapon was interfering with the program itself but at the time she thought it was a malfunction.

When Lewis departed with the others on the away team to purchase or otherwise retrieve the weapon, Honey remained behind to continue looking at ways of containing it. She was assigned Support Crewman Will Ahara to help look at the problems in the holodeck but after being briefly called to the bridge she found him dead, and herself locked in. Bear was cut off with no way to ask for help but fortunately her crewmates detected the anomaly and came to her rescue… although the first thing they did was try to shut the holodeck down, which left her in darkness with no link to the outside world, an experience she was in no hurry to repeat. The weapon of course tried to escape, having managed to replicate itself from more than light particles. It then attempted to carry out its primary mission, to destroy the ship it was infiltrating. After pursuing it through several decks and losing life support so that they had to move around in space suits, they finally pinned it down.

Another Engineer, Harkness, had been successful in preventing its access to the warp core and they used the same method to trap and contain it… with some help from IKE. The Columbia’s AI IKE had been fighting the weapon since it first reached out into the ship, it tried to destroy him and did manage to isolate him for a while. They used Harkness’ techniques again to protect the item brought back by the away team, re-enforced by my security protocols until it could be examined by Star Fleet.
