- The "Arecibo message" is transmitted from the Arecibo Observatory to Messier 13.
An interstellar radio message, it carried basic information about humanity, and Earth.
Meant more as a demonstration of technological achievement at the time, it was broadcast one time, and carried 1,679 bits of data.
