The Zeus-class Light Cruiser is a Star Fleet starship class, of light cruiser type.
History
With the retirement of the Intrepid and Sabre-Class light cruisers at the end of the General War, Star Fleet found itself in need of a small vessel capable of multiple roles including deep-space exploration and large-scale fleet engagements. To accomplish this, the Star Fleet Corps of Engineers turned to the reliable and adaptable design of the Nova-class. The new ship however, would need to be built with combat in mind, and as such was constructed at over three times the size of the older Nova, and far superior firepower and defenses.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the USS Zeus, CL-2000 surprised even her designers with her abilities, able to fight even a heavy cruiser to a standstill while under the command of a competent tactician. More important was her speed, with a brand new Class 7 Impulse Engine and Type 8 Warp Nacelles, the Zeus-class could race from spacedock to an emergency situation in half the time it took for existing vessels – enabling it to fulfill the crucial role of a rapid response vessel, deploying from any base along a contested border to investigate any suspected violation of a Neutral Zone, or rush to aid in case of an emergency.
