A virus which affects the empathic abilities of older Betazoids. It causes them to project a certain emotion onto those with a concealed tendency to feel that emotion. An example of this is when the crew of Deep Space Nine became attracted to various other members of the crew when Lwaxana Troi had Zanthi fever.
The only symptom is a slight headache. The virus can by cured with a simple wide-specturm anti-viral agent.
