Trilithium is a compound that, until 2371, was considered experimental. By 2373, it was carried on some Starfleet ships.
This element is a nuclear inhibitor, which means it has the ability to stop all fusion within a star, by way of quantum implosion.
Dilithium and paralithium could both be converted into trilithium, while the explosion of trilithium might result in trilithium resin, a highly toxic substance that could also be used as a weapon.
History:
- As of 2371, Starfleet was aware that the Romulans had been working on trilithium, but had not found a way to stabilize it.
- In late 2373, the USS Defiant carried trilithium.
- In 2375, high concentrations of trilithium isotopes indicated the presence of Romulan plasma torpedoes.
