A temporal distortion is a warp or fracture in the space-time continuum.
It can often be associated with the phenomenon of time travel, but these distortions can destroy a starship depending on the strength of the distortion.
These distortions can be detected using tachyon particles, which are particles created as a side effect to the distortion.
