STARSHIP QUESTIONS

There are questions that pertain to the starships we use on Federation Space. This page is a continuing work in progress.

Q: Do we have ablative armor here? Would it be on every ship if we do?
A: Ablative armor is fitted to the avenger class battle cruisers only - the last remaining ships of this class are the Dauntless and Gettysburg.

Q: Also are the Dauntless and Gettysburg the oldest ships in the fleet?
A: The Philadelphia is the oldest active ship on the site. The Dauntless would be second oldest, with the Republic bringing up third, then the Gettysburg, Titan, Copernicus and Yeager.

Q: Do our ships have saucer separation capabilities?
A: Saucer separation is for emergency purposes, and not conducted routinely. Ships Light Cruiser sized and above can perform emergency saucer separation.

Q: On a Marine starship are there naval officers too or they are all from the Marines corps?
A: There would be naval officers in command of the Marine vessel.

Q: Would our Starships have Shipwide Holoprojectors like the Prometheus in Voyager when the Doctor was sent to the Alpha Quadrant?
A: No. It brings into question holographic crews and other areas that wouldn't be useful within the game.

Q: What is the class of the runabout we use on the site?
A: They currently don't have one, we just use runabout as a generic term.

Q: Do any of the ships (excluding Fighters) have manual control columns for emergency situations?
A: No. The column is essentially a 'fly-by-wire' system, which would work the exact same way as the console controls. If one was dead, the other would be as well.

Q: How many types of self-destruct sequence are there?
A: There are a number of ways to destroy a ship (or part thereof) which normally revolve around use of the antimatter or fixed explosives as the weapon. remember that even switching off the magnetic containment fields on an antimatter pod would be enough to destroy a ship, and so you can do many things to the antimatter supply system to get the desired effect. The 1701 self destruct showed the use of fixed explosives. You could also if you wanted to be particularly nasty use command overrides and program the transporter plus replicators to beam small devices wherever you wanted them, if you wanted local devastation. You could also use the environmental system to create a host of nasty substances to incapacitate the crew leaving you a ship to take over.

Just as well these command codes are normally only know to the CO/FO/CEO level, and the antimatter system is covered in backup self-powered systems, to prevent such an event.

Q: What does the 'USS' stand for?
A: United Star Ship

Q: The torpedo launchers on the Frigates and Destroyers, are they simple launchers that you load a single torpedo and fire it? Or are they the burst-fire ones that can shoot up to 4 at a time?
A: The launchers on all ships are 'simple' launchers.

Q: Somebody told me the ship draws all of its power from the Warp Core, but I have seen that they have reserve batteries for the critical systems like Thrusters and Life Support. Is this true or is my friend correct?
A: Warp cores, impulse engines, auxiliary fusion reactors and ships emergency batteries can all be used as power sources. There will also be power supplies (in batteries and engines) within the emergency escape capsules and ships shuttles, and batteries within the emergency shelters found on the bigger ships.

Those ships carrying land based heavy weaponry (i.e. those with large marine detachments) will have access to the weaponry power generators.
