The Iotians inhabit the planet Sigma Iotia II. Externally, Iotians are humanoids that are physiologically identical to Humans, but internal differences exist between the two species.

In 2167, the Horizon visited the planet. During its survey mission, a member of the crew left behind a book, Chicago Mobs of the Twenties, which was discovered by the natives. The highly imitative Iotians reinvented their entire society based on this book, thinking it was the model for a perfect society.

In 2267, the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 visited the star system for the second time and discovered the extent of the cultural contamination. After unusual negotiations with mob bosses on the surface, which required an intimidating show of force, Captain James T. Kirk was able to create a loose system of government with the Federation as a "Godfather"-type figure.

Joran
The Joran are a peaceful and technologically advanced species of humanoids inhabiting the Equatorial Desert region of the planet Kryn'tor. A private people, the physiology of the Joran is unknown but they appear to be warm-blooded bipedal mammals around 1 meter in height. They wear hooded shrouds underneath which is visible two glowing eyes.

The Joran live in an underground city (or cities) powered with advanced forms of electricity. Very little is known about their technology, which may be more advanced than the Federation. It is not clear whether they have or use warp technology, though they do have transporter technology. A Joran transporter beam is red in colour.

The Jorans have a device screening the planet from the harmful effects of radiation from their local star R’ek. The device creates an effective dampening shield that interferes with Federation transporters, targeting and guidance systems.

Joran language is like birdsong and consists of chirruping and whistling. However, like the Nakai, they have learned Federation Standard from previous encounters with humans.

The Jorans are known to be governed by a Grand Council.

The Jorans appear to have little contact with the pre-industrial Nakai people who inhabit Kryn'tor's Northern Forest Region but the two seem to peacefully co-exist on the planet.

A USS Copernicus, GEC-9035 away team stumbled into their territory on Stardate 20811.14 believing Kryn'tor to be uninhabited by sentient life (see Copernicus Mission logs "If it Looks too Good to Be True"). The Jorans appeared happy to trade with the Federation, but the dialogue was cut short by the appearance of a Romulan warbird in the system and the Copernicus was forced to leave.

The Kesprytt are a warp-capable species native to the planet Kesprytt III. They are divided into two rivaling nation-states known as the "Kes " and the "Prytt. "   In 2370, the bigger part of this species (the Kes) applied for associate Federation membership, but this request was denieddue to Federation requirements that included the entire planet must be the one to apply.  There were virtually no inter-governmental communications, not even in an emergency capacity, since the late 23rd century. Due to the long conflict between the two nations, all Kesprytt have developed a strong sense of paranoia and xenophobia.

The Kressari are a spacefaring humanoid species. They are primarily widely known for their reputation as traders, and are positively noted for their commercial trade trading of botanical DNA.
Although a politically neutral race with no standing military, elements within the Cardassian Central Command employed Kressari as intermediaries in 2370 to secretly supply the Bajoran insurgence group known as the Alliance for Global Unity (or "the Circle"), so that they would force the Federation from Bajor and allow the Cardassians to reclaim the planet.

These colors include black, white, blue, violet and vermillion, with each color denoting a different emotional state. The colors can also combine, with one surrounding another in concentric rings, thus discrediting the Circleto express more complex emotions.

The Lumerians are a humanoid species, clearly noticeable by their distinctive forehead markings.   As a species they are gifted with empathic abilities, but are usually culturally restricted in the use of this empathy to other Lumerians and alien empaths and telepaths. Some Lumerians seem to be able to ritually form a psionic bond with another person, giving him or her the option to "dump" bad feelings and other "mental waste" onto the bond partner. The latter one usually suffers from severely accelerated aging and aggressive behavior. The ritual is performed with the help of a crystalline stone, that seems to enhance the psionic output of the ritual participants. Medical evidence of such an occurrence can be found in the cerebral cortex, in the form of elevated levels of neurotransmitter residue.  Lumerians performed a funeral meditation which usually involved a partner, and speaking in the Lumerian language.

The Metrons are a powerful, enigmatic species whose government is known as the Metron Consortium.
The Metrons were first encountered by United Federation of Planets representatives in 2267. In that year, Captain James T. Kirk ordered the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 to pursue a Gorn vessel that had destroyed the observation outpost located on Cestus III.

As the pursuit passed the uncharted solar system, known as 2466 PM, the Enterprise was scanned. The Gorn vessel inexplicably slowed and stopped. Thinking they planned to fight, Kirk prepared to engage; and the Enterprise likewise slowed and stopped. Both ships were held in place by the solar system; not by tractor beams, but rather by 'an unidentifiable power'.
The Metronswere first encountered by United Federation of Planets representatives in 2267. In that year, Captain James T. Kirk ordered the USS Enterprise to pursue a Gorn vessel that had destroyed an observation outpost located on Cestus III. As the pursuit passed the uncharted solar system, the Enterprise was scanned, the Gorn vessel was stopped, and Kirk assumed they were posturing to fight. But both ships were held in place, declaring not by tractor beam or by spatial forces, but by a power the Enterprise could not detect. The Metrons declared both species ships to be savages, prepared a planet and removed the captain of each ship Captain to a neutral planet to fight to itthe death. ThereWhen Kirk won, they would fight but chose to spare the deathGorn, and his mercy surprised the outcome of Metrons. They then returned each Captain to this contest would determine which ship survived, and which was destroyedwere able to relocate the Federation ship 1,600 light years from its previous position.
Eventually, Kirk won this fight, but elected to spare his helpless opponent. This demonstration of mercy surprised the Metrons, whose analysis of the situation did not lead them to expect it. A Metron appeared to Kirk, and suggested that, although the Federation was still half savage, there might be hope for it in a few thousand years. The Metrons then returned Kirk to the Enterprise and transported the ship 1,600 light years away from their space.
The In this one encounter, the Metrons demonstrated the ability to manipulate forms many formidable abilities: manipulation of energy forms unknown to the Federation; scanning at great ranges; transportation science: to perform comprehensive scans at great range, to transport of matter over great distances instantly, ; and perhaps to rapidly terraform possibly terraforming planets to specific requirements. All of these feats were well beyond what even 24th century Federation technology can accomplish. This this suggests their science and technology is hundreds or thousands of years more advanced than that of the Federation.
Metrons have long lifespans; the representative that met Kirk was approximately 1,500 years old, despite appearing as little more than a boy. His comment to Kirk suggests an interest in the political and sociological geometry of the galaxy thousands of years hence. It is possible that this perspective is a consequence of this long lifespan.
