Captain's Log Stardate 21512.31

We are heading to Outpost Ninety Nine to pick up essential supplies for the First fleet's rebuilding efforts. A simple cargo run mission that turned dangerous with the fact that our route brings us closer to the space controlled by the rebellious 4th fleet. This danger justifies Star Fleet's decision to send a heavy cruiser warship to do cargo run.

Captain's Log Stardate 21602.11,

On her way to Outpost Ninety Nine, the Intrepid detected a strange anomaly on her scanners. We decided to make a small detour to investigate. So far, we know that the gaseous cloud is made up of unknown particles and isotopes. It presents temporal distortion properties rendering long range scanning difficult and inaccurate. My Chief Science Officer, Lieutenant Orano is leading an away team aboard the shuttle Spock to investigate the cloud at a closer range. At the same time, we are sending a probe deeper into the cloud to gather a sample and give us a glimpse into the conditions inside it.

We have contacted Outpost Ninety Nine and informed them of the delay in our arrivals, and the ship security and tactical departments remains on standby in case any ships from the 4th decide to make an appearance.

As we examined the cloud closely we only grew more curious as to what it had inside. We launched a probe to penetrate its outer layer and collect some samples from the inside. However, that seems to alarm something on the inside and a ship sprang out of the cloud, opened fire on us and jumped to warp.

I ordered the intrepid to chase the mysterious ship while leaving the shuttle Spock behind to complete the investigation. Lieutenant Orano and her team's task will be to retrieve the probe and gather as much information about that cloud as possible.

It turns out the ship that attacked us was the Star Fleet ship The USS Renaissance reported missing in the distant past. After we caught up with them, it was decided that it was best if we both returned the cloud in order to help our shuttle, the Spock, come back to our timeline. Unfortunately, it was determined that the Renaissance had to sacrifice itself in order for the shuttle to return. In the end, her Captain made the right choice, and the Spock was returned safely to the correct time. It was a difficult decision to make, but I had no choice but to let them go in order to have our people back. Their sacrifice will be remembered.

On another note, Lieutenant Commander Jadaris has stolen a shuttle and attempted to rescue Orano. While I understand the reason behind his action, I cannot let this go unpunished. This was an unauthorized action that borders on mutiny; I have no choice but to place a reprimand in his record. This mark will remain with him for the rest of his career, and I hope it will serve to remind him to respect the chain of command.

I do wonder that if I would have done the same if I was in his place, and the truth is that I would. My understanding and empathy to his cause is the only reason he was not earned a rank reduction or worse, a court martial leading to his dismissal from Star Fleet. But I hope that he understand well that there shall be no second chances. There is only so much I can do to protect him from making bad decisions.
