After a meeting that only the CO and FO attended, I was then called to another briefing within my official capacity to inform us that the Borg had been discovered and that we were required to join the rest of the Fleet in order to try to once again eradicate them. I have never known the Borg in my lifetime, however the training I received at the Academy and the stories I have heard made me know instantly that this encounter was to be no picnic.
On arrival at the scene, I scrambled Security teams around the ship. I have got to admit it felt like a mammoth task however, the teams obliged and we appeared by all accounts to have the ship fairly well covered. This was the case until we had intruders on Deck six, to which the FO and my Midshipman Art D’Tor’an as well as myself swiftly responded.
Making our way carefully along the corridor, the dark and warm environment was a little unnerving even after all the years of service. We didn’t have to wait long however to encounter our first drone, which I was able to disable however not before it had taken a chunk out of the Commander’s tricep for it’s trouble. It seemed to disable swiftly once we had both shot at it and I had blinded it briefly through a shot at it’s cortical implant. Learning this had made me less anxious, when exploring the rest of the deck.
Patching up the Commander was fairly easy, as we were left alone for the time being. It wasn’t until we came to another cross section of the corridor, that we were then faced with another two tactical drones. Giving the instruction to D’Tor’an once again to adopt the same disarming method, the pair of us were able to get the drones to fire on each other after we had managed to duck out of the way by the skin of our teeth. There was no time to celebrate though, as the lights went out and the hiss of a hull breach could be heard in the corridor.
Managing to press on, we reached our destination of the Aux Bridge where the drones there had all been disabled, much to my personal relief. After securing the area, I was then able to return to the Bridge to the information that the threat was no more. In hindsight of this mission, I am very proud of my team as they pull together to continue to make the USS Sheridan the finest ship in the Fleet.
