1881 – A meteorite lands near the village of Grossliebenthal, southwest of Odessa, Ukraine. Its moderately large mass allowed analysis by several observers, and the classification of "chondrite" was thus used much earlier than other meteorite classifications.
1953 – Actor Robert Beltran (Cmdr. Chakotay) is born.
1963 – Actor Terry Farrell (Lt. Cmdr. Jadzia Dax) is born.
1969 – Apollo 12 astronauts Pete Conrad and Alan Bean land at "Oceanus Procellarum" and become the third and fourth humans to walk on the Moon.
1999 – The People's Republic of China launches its first Shenzhou spacecraft.
