1945 – UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) is founded.

  • This was a specialized agency aimed at promoting world peace and security through international cooperation in education, arts, sciences and culture. Its headquarters was in Paris, France.

1965 – The Soviet Union launches the Venera 3 space probe toward Venus, becoming the first spacecraft to reach the surface of another planet.
