Neural Transducers

A neural transducer is a small implantable device, used by doctors to try and restore mobility to a physically disabled patient.

A transducer has the ability to pick up neural signals from the brain, and use those signals to stimulate the appropriate damaged muscle tissue and nerves elsewhere in the body.
Though the devices are not 100% effective, they do allow a patient to recover some, if not most, mobility.

Example:

  • Dr. Crusher presented this option to a patient after they suffered a spinal cord injury, though the patient in question would have only gained back 60-70% mobility.
