Neural Neutralizer

Invented by Doctor Simon Van Gelder in 2266, the purpose of this device was to aid rehabilitation of criminals through the specific removal of thoughts related to their criminal acts.

It was also somewhat effective as a means of implanting suggestions. Anything said to the patient while under the influence of the Neutralizer would become their own thoughts. The effectiveness depended on the complexity of the suggestion, the number of times it was repeated, the intensity of the Neutralizer's setting, and the strength of the patient's will.

The device was discovered to have detrimental effects, however, if used without proper supervision and care. Long term or repeated exposure could produce profound mental illness and synaptic damage.
