Nausicaa as seen from space

Nausicaa is an inhabited planet in the Beta Quadrant, and is the homeworld of the Nausicaan species.

The fifth planet (out of five) in its system, it orbits a yellow-white Class-F star.

The planet itself is Class M, with data on the other planets in the same system still largely unknown.

All of Nausicaa's landmasses are connected, with 40% of the planet's surface covered in water.
However, this water percentage is due to numerous lakes and seas, and not oceans.
Found mostly in the tropical areas around the equator, the water helps to form a fringe between the planet's fertile regions and barren lands.

The land areas of Nausicaa are predominantly arid, rough, and rocky. With frequent storms and almost-constant winds, the animals on the surface have evolved to become omnivores, eating whatever food they can find in order to survive.

Unfortunately, Nausicaan civilization has created much industrial pollution, hindering the growth ability of its flora and fauna world-wide.

To this day, the planet still bears the physical scars from infrastructure build-up, and the people and animals alike still suffer from total ecological disaster.

It is uncertain whether the acidic rain that falls is due to the planet's natural atmosphere, or the civilization's consequences of industry.

The "Great Silver Plain," located over the northern pole, is a glacier of smooth ice and clear skies, with little vegetation or life of any kind.
The ice has previously been measured at great thickness, and was noted to be polished by the constant winds.

Occasionally, Nausicaans who sought enlightenment traditionally took a pilgrimage across the Great Silver Plain, a journey of roughly 300 miles.

  • During this journey, individuals are not allowed to carry ranged weapons, cannot attack each other, cannot help each other,
and survival of the Great Silver Plain has been said to bring either Enlightenment or madness.
