A mutagenic virus is a virus that mutates DNA sequences, literally changing the physical makeup of the infected person starting with the DNA.
Select species have experimented with mutagenic viruses when their species was faced with extinction.
- Unfortunately, this usually did not end well, such as the side effect of mutating the DNA of anyone who stepped foot on the planet.
- In the case of the Loque'eque, the side effect also caused the infected to have a strong need to "return" to the Loque'eque homeworld.
In 2154, one mutagenic virus infected the Klingon Empire. Once infected with this virus, a Klingon's cranial ridges would dissolve.
