Medals—privileged adornments of distinction among ranks, commemorations of unforgettable events, rewards for significant achievements. Yes, medals are awesome!
Federation Space players—and their characters—may earn medals as they distinguish themselves through credible participation in a specific set of circumstances or fulfil specific requirements to a degree above and beyond expectations. While there is often a very thin line between earnings of players and earnings of their characters, generally, players may earn out of context achievement medals and campaign medals, and characters may earn in context service medals.
The following tables illustrate the significance of each medal:
Service Medals
The following service and achievement medals are specific and in context; that is, characters may earn them, depending on the status of their personal affiliations: (Note that the current rating of the Romulan Star Empire renders it a non-player character race.)
United Federation of Planets—Star Fleet
Star Fleet Academy Graduate Ribbon – Star Fleet Academy awards the SFAG to all naval-space cadets successfully completing their training at the Academy, thus becoming graduated Star Fleet personnel. The SFAG has no point value. | |
Star Fleet Academy Equivalency Certificate – Star Fleet Academy issues the SFAC to all eligible naval-space applicants, such as professional non-graduate or foreign officers, successfully completing their training at the Academy, thus becoming certified Star Fleet personnel. The SFAC has no point value. | |
Marine Corps Academy Graduate Ribbon – Star Fleet Academy awards the MCAG to all marine-space cadets successfully completing their training at the Academy, thus becoming graduated Star Fleet marines. The MCAG has no point value. | |
Command School Graduate Ribbon – Star Fleet Academy awards the CSAG to all eligible Star Fleet officers successfully completing their training at the Academy, thus becoming trained Star Fleet command officers. The CSAG has no point value. | |
Star Fleet Achievement Medal – Commanding officers may award the SFAM, perhaps at the recommendation of their department heads, to crewmembers who demonstrate better than average job performance skills, or to reward a single significant act. The SFAM has a value of 100 points. | |
Star Fleet Commendation Medal – Commanding officers may award the SFCM, perhaps at the recommendation of their department heads, to crewmembers who demonstrate outstanding job performance skills in excess of that awarded by the SFAM. The SFCM has a value of 200 points. | |
Gold Star – Commanding officers may award the GS, perhaps at the recommendation of their department heads, to crewmembers who exhibit valor in the face of imminent danger. The GS has a value of 300 points. | |
Diamond Star – Commanding officers may recommend to their fleet commander to award the DS to crewmembers who exhibit uncommon valor in the face of imminent danger. The DS has a value of 400 points. | |
Distinguished Service Globe – Commanding officers may recommend to their fleet commander to award the DSG to crewmembers who consistently demonstrate outstanding job performance skills and/or exhibit uncommon valor in the face of imminent danger. The DSG has a value of 500 points. | |
Star Fleet Cross of Gallantry – Commanding officers may recommend to their fleet commander to award the SFCOG to crewmembers who exhibit uncommon valor in the face of imminent danger versus a declared enemy of the Federation during wartime. The SFCOG has a value of 600 points. | |
Star Fleet Medal of Honor – Fleet commanders and commanding officers may jointly recommend to the Commander in Chief to award the SFMOH, the highest military honor in Star Fleet, to crewmembers who perform acts of bravery in the face of insurmountable odds. The SFMOH has a value of 700 points. | |
Outstanding Unit Citation – Fleet commanders, or higher ranked personnel, may recommend to the Commander in Chief to issue the OUC to entire crews who consistently perform in a manner that sets an elevated standard for crews to follow. The OUC has a value of 200 points. | |
Purple Heart – Commanding officers may award the PH to crewmembers who receive the status of wounded in action versus a declared enemy of the Federation during wartime. The PH has no point value. |
Romulan Star Empire
Imperial Academy Graduate – The Imperial Academy awards the IAG to all space cadets successfully completing their training at the Academy, thus becoming graduated Imperial personnel. The IAG has no point value. | |
Imperial Achievement Medal – Commanding officers may award the IAM, perhaps at the recommendation of their division heads, to crewmembers who demonstrate better than average job performance skills, or to reward a single significant act. The IAM has a value of 100 points. | |
Imperial Commendation Medal – Commanding officers may award the ICM, perhaps at the recommendation of their division heads, to crewmembers who demonstrate outstanding job performance skills in excess of that awarded by the IAM. The ICM has a value of 200 points. | |
Legion of Merit – Commanding officers may award the LOM to crewmembers who exhibit valor in the face of imminent danger. The LOM has a value of 300 points. | |
Senatorial Medal of Valor – Commanding officers may recommend to their fleet commander to award the SMOV to crewmembers who exhibit uncommon valor in the face of imminent danger. The SMOV has a value of 400 points. | |
Imperial Medal of Valor – Commanding officers may recommend to their fleet commander to award the IMOV to crewmembers who consistently demonstrate outstanding job performance skills and/or exhibit uncommon valor in the face of imminent danger. The IMOV has a value of 500 points. | |
Order of the Senate – Commanding officers may recommend to their fleet commander to award the OOTS to crewmembers who exhibit uncommon valor in the face of imminent danger versus a declared enemy of the Star Empire during wartime. The OOTS has a value of 600 points. | |
Order of the Empire – Fleet commanders and commanding officers may jointly recommend to the Commander in Chief to award the OOTE, the highest military honor in the Imperial Fleet, to crewmembers who perform acts of bravery in the face of insurmountable odds. The OOTE has a value of 700 points. | |
Defense of the Empire – Commanding officers may award the DOTE to crewmembers who receive the status of wounded in action versus a declared enemy of the Star Empire during wartime. The DOTE has no point value. |
Campaign Medals
Generally, the following campaign medals are universal and out of context; that is, all eligible players may earn them: (To earn campaign medals, players must participate in an official Federation Space story arc for which participants may earn a medal, and must participate in it for a minimum of 30 days.)
Federation Space Participant – Players may retroactively claim the FSP, which commemorates their official start date with Federation Space, after completing 30 days as a registered member of the community. Returning players may again claim the FSP, which commemorates their subsequent return date. The FSP has no point value. | |
Romulan War Campaign Medal – Players may retroactively claim the RomWCM, which commemorates their participation in the now closed Romulan War story arc, historically the Second Federation-Romulan War, Y27, after completing 30 days as a participant in the story. The RomWCM has no point value. | |
Borg War Campaign Medal – Players may retroactively claim the BorWCM, which commemorates their participation in the now closed Borg War story arc, Y27-28, after completing 30 days as a participant in the story. The BorWCM has no point value. | |
Night of the Viper Campaign Medal – Players may retroactively claim the NOTVCM, which commemorates their participation in the now closed Night of the Viper story arc, Y29-30, after completing 30 days as a participant in the story. The NOTVCM has no point value. | |
Second Romulan War Campaign Medal – Players may retroactively claim the RomW2M, which commemorates their participation in the now closed second Romulan War story arc, historically the end of the Federation-Romulan ceasefire, Y33-35, after completing 30 days as a participant in the story. The RomW2M has no point value. | |
Krynar War Campaign Medal – Players may retroactively claim the KryWCM, which commemorates their participation in the now closed Krynar War story arc, Y37-39, after completing 30 days as a participant in the story. The KryWCM has no point value. (See also Krynar Confederation.) |
