Magnasite-nitron tablets were an item included in 23rd century survival gear, as well as medical kits.
They were small, white, round tablets, containing compressed chemicals. Placed on a hard surface and struck with moderate force, they would ignite, burning with a thin flame.
Such a flame could be useful as a light source, and would be too small to be an effective heat source.
