A group commander (or GC) is a military title usually given to an officer that commands a number of different units or vessels.
Star Fleet
In the Federation Star Fleet, a group commander referrred to an officer that had operational control of one or more battle/exploration groups. The group commander was a flag officer, usually of commodore or rear admiral rank who typically commanded his own starship within the group. The GC's starship served as the flagship of that group.
