Personal History
Born on Boreth, Gi'ral was raised an only child in a modest home. Her mother was highly educated, and thus she received a rather enlightened education, in contrast to standard Klingon educational training. Her father was an ex-KDF warrior who had left to pursue a more promising career working for Boreth's planetary security forces. As she had no male siblings, Gi'ral received the benefit of his experience. He taught her how to use bladed weapons at an early age and how to defend herself if attacked.
Gi'ral's father also exposed her early to the more spiritual side of Klingon life, taking her to visit the planet's famous monastery quite often as a child. The overexposure to religion, though, made her thoroughly dislike any aspect of it by her late childhood. In place of spirituality, she chose to believe that the brutality of real life was inescapable and that one had to be aggressive and strong to make a place in the world. She recognized the importance of physical fitness and endurance, and she began to train under a professional instructor in combat, both with and without weapons. She quickly gained skills and even managed to win several amateur competitions as a youth.
As she grew older, Gi'ral considered joining the KDF. At her parent's urging though, she instead chose a path of education to serve the Empire. She showed an aptitude for languages, and she immersed herself in the study of Romulan and Gorn, hoping to earn an appointment as an intelligence officer when she graduated. She quickly grew weary of academics, though, and she began to crave the warrior's life. She left school and joined the KDF, only to be disappointed when, due to her previous studies, she was placed in a educational program to improve her skill in the Romulan language and to study Romulan military tactics.
Upon completion of the program, she was assigned as a tactical specialist at KDF headquarters on Qo'noS. This frustrated her as she did not wish to be desk-bound but instead wanted the chance to prove herself as a warrior. She did her job well, though, despite her dislike of the assignment. However, she put in numerous requests for transfer and finally was rewarded, or perhaps punished, by being sent to the IKV Dreamslayer as an Operations Officer, thus giving her the chance to prove herself, win or fail.
Personality Profile
Personality: Gi'ral is well-educated but prefers to downplay that part of herself in favor of emphasizing her warrior skills. She is not one to waste words, speaking only when she has something to say and always to the point. She also feels herself the equal of any man and does not like the restrictions placed on women in Klingon society. As a combination of these traits, she often overplays her role as a warrior.
Sense of Humor: Very little. She does not like humor at her own expense, and most of her own attempts at humor could at best be considered sarcastic.
Phobias: None
Likes: Honesty, Zilm'kach
Dislikes: Long-winded speeches, religion
Achievements: Finally earning a warrior's post.
Disappointments: Having wasted her time pursuing linguistics.
Illnesses: None
Strengths: Above average intelligence
Weaknesses: Sometimes overcompensates for her perceived weaknesses.
Fears: None
Prejudices: Everything non-Klingon
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Detests overtly feminine attire and prefers to dress more comfortably.
Distinguishing Features: She is a physically attractive woman but tries to de-emphasize that attractiveness.
Headridges: Prominent but not sharp.
Pets: None
Personal Paradigm Shifts
Best Time: Training with her father as a child.
Proudest Moment: Defeating a much larger and more experienced male opponent in a martial arts competition as a youth, thus taking away his title as champion, which he'd held for three years straight.
Most Crucial Experience: The day she made the decision to reject traditional Klingon religion. She felt it freed her to be who she wanted to be and not what she was expected to be.
Role Model: Kor. His life and career inspired her to finally leave school and follow the warrior's path.
