Her parents had both joined Starfleet and had very good careers. Marvin is a Science Officer and Jasmine is a Medical Officer. Lucky for them they had been assigned together at the Outpost. Before Kate was born her older sister Darla was given full attention. However, difficulties came when Kate arrived and her parents tried their hardest to give both their daughters as much time as the other.

Kate and Darla didn't get on well until Kate lost her husband to some very nasty injuries. The incident brought the sisters closer together and Darla helped support her with Ethan.

Kate decided to follow in her parents footsteps at an early age where Darla stayed within the support section of Star Fleet. Kate joined Star Fleet at 18 and become a qualified medic. She was then assigned to the USS Faraday a Science Vessel in deep space. Kate got a field promotion to Ensign.

She met George who was a Tactical Officer on the USS Faraday who was to be her future husband. He happened to end up in Sickbay after an away mission and there was a spark between them. George was soon purposing to Kate as he felt it time shouldn't be wasted after a close friend on board died through an explosion in the shuttlebay. It wasn't long before they were married and Kate got pregnant not long after. They had Ethan while the ship was under attack so it made it difficult for George to be there but he managed to get there at the crucial time. Within a few months they were relocated to a Star Base to which Kate become Lt [JG]. Even through the placement was great for Ethan it made George restless and insistence proved fatal when he got a transfer to the USS Gauntlet a battle cruiser.

Back in the tactical officer chair George felt more at home on a starship rather then a base. He made Kate decide it was a good idea due to the excitement of discovery which could be beneficial to Ethan in the future. After a few months aboard George was promoted to Chief Tactical Officer. It seemed all was going well until the ship come under fire from an unknown foe. The ship itself was severally damaged as the patients flooded into the Sickbay Kate saw her husband who body was lifeless. She tried everything to get him back to life but to no avail and the security team had to tackle her so the Chief Medical Officer could sedate her.

Kate was immediately transferred to a Star Base to her annoyance as she wanted to carry on George's wishes but Starfleet felt it would be best all round for her to regain some strength before being put on the frontline. After two years on the Star Base Kate had now become Lt [JG] and reapplied for another transfer and to her surprise was accepted.
