Personal History

Ian Elliot grew up as the eldest of four children, taking responsibility upon himself to help out in any way he could. Although he grew up in Brooklyn, New York, Ian is 1/8th Klingon, and is proud of his culture and heritage, especially since he does have noticeable, soft ridges on his forehead.

Ian has been known to make jokes about being Klingon, and engage other aesthetically different species in conversations about their own culture. He has even built models of various Klingon ships, the medium-sized Warbird one of the few projects Ian has successfully finished.

After his twin sisters were born, his parents had trouble conceiving another child. When his brother was born however, the child had many medical problems. It was discovered that the problem was in the boy’s genetics, and that he would not live past twenty. Horrified, a young Ian stole the Doctor’s notes, and realized that genetics was nothing but math in his eyes. Ian then kidnapped his brother from the hospital and disappeared for just under a week, working with his brother on his cure. A warrant for arrest was put out for Ian, but when he and his brother returned, they had found a cure for the young boy, and the family insisted no charges were pressed. Ian thrust the work into the doctors' arms, and he sat in the hospital’s brig during the surgery. After Ian was let out, his family began to pressure him to go into the medical field.

Ever since the surgery, Ian and his brother Bernard have been very close. Ian is known to be very protective of the boy, and the two have a relationship closer than with their parents or sisters.

When Bernard had fully recovered, Ian’s family put even more pressure on Ian joining Starfleet in the Medical field. However, Ian instead went into Engineering, claiming that what he had done was “just math” and that Engineering was “just the same, anyway.” With high –but reluctant– references from the hospital’s staff, Ian was able to enroll in Starfleet a semester earlier than the rest of his graduating class, and took as many classes as he could. However, even though all these classes were in the Engineering Department, they were too broad and spread out to have a specific major, and Ian was forced to put down “General Engineering.” Realizing that he had a better chance of a career with a specialty, Ian took even more classes, giving him the minor of “Ship Engineering.” This also kept Ian from graduating earlier than the rest of his class, as well.

In addition to being called a “wasted prodigy” by his family, Ian often finds himself with many unfinished projects. After graduating from the Academy, he stayed on Earth doing various jobs for Starfleet until he found a stable assignment on the USS Yeager.
