When the Cardassians retook Deep Space 9, then-Major Kira stayed on the station as a representative of the Bajoran Government. The Cardassians reinstated Terek Nor’s old commander, Dukat, whom Kira knew and hated from the previous Cardassian occupation. She secretly worked with others to thwart any Dominion goings-on that she could. After the Battle of Cardassia and the Dominion War was ended, Kira was put in charge of Deep Space 9 when Benjamin Sisko decided to take an extended Leave of Absence.

Though Dr. Bashir was infatuated with her, Jadzia developed an appreciation and then romantic feelings for Worf instead. Like her previous host, Jadzia was said to have “the heart of a Klingon,” and spoke fluent Klingonese as well as carried on many traditions. She and Worf were married on Deep Space 9 in 2374, though they were separated from each other during the Dominion War. Dax went on to command the ‘‘Defiant’’ against the Dominion fleet, and was put in command of DS-9 during the First Battle of Chin'toka. When the Cardassian Gul Dukat boarded the station and tried to sabotage the Bajoran Wormhole during the battle, Jadzia died while trying to stop him from doing so.

Dr. Bashir’s biggest secret was one of his childhood: born as mentally deficient, Bashir’s parents took him to Adigeon Prime for illegal genetic resequencing treatments to improve his mental and physical acuity.
Famously known for owning Quark’s Bar & Restaurant, and infamously known for being a trader, a smuggler, and other related nefarious activities, Quark was a stringent follower of the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition. His establishment, ‘‘QuarkQuark's Bar, Grill, Gaming House and Holosuite Arcade,’’ was often used as a front for illegal activities, not that it wasn’t profitable in its own right. Opened in 2363 on then-Cardassian station Terok Nor, he also sold food to the oppressed Bajorans “under the table,” or on the black market. He met Kira Nerys through his black market ways, as well as Constable Odo.
Once the Federation took over the space station and re-named it “Deep Deep Space 9, Commander Sisko was able to convince Quark to keep his restaurant (and perhaps his other dealings) open. “Quark’s Bar” or just “Quark’s” as it was commonly known, was a hit with the Federation, and continued to attract more or less the same clientele. Miles O’Brien and Dr. Bashir were often frequenters, taking up countless hours in the holodecks (or “holosuites,” as Quark referred to them as). Other regulars at ‘‘Quark’s’’ Quark’s included visiting Klingons, Jadzia Dax, and regular customer Morn.

Unlike other Ferengi, Rom’s genius did not lie in business, but instead in engineering. As latinum was how a Ferengi got by in life, he relied on his brother to get him through, until he was finally employed as an engineer on Deep Space 9. He joined the station's Bajoran engineering crew, as well as Chief O'Brien's maintenance team, where he received high praise.
In 2375, Rom became Grand Nagus of the Ferengi Alliance, following a series of social reforms. The appointment of Rom to this title paved the way for a more tolerant Ferengi society, one that allowed free commerce and women's rights.

He spent the end days of the Dominion War as a decoder, translating Cardassian messages for Starfleet Intelligence. ==== Freighter Captain Kasidy Yates ====

Introduced to Benjamin Sisko by his well-meaning son Jake, Kasiday was a well-known cargo ship Captain operating in the Bajoran sector. Instantly bonding over their love for the sport of baseball, the relationship moved fast. She began to work primarily for the Bajorans, exporting cargo from the planet Bajor to Bajoran-established colonies. Without Sisko’s knowledge, she also began smuggling cargo to the Maquis, which she was later sent to prison for. In 2373, her term ended and she returned to DS-9, she and Sisko picking up where they left off.
When Sisko and Kasidy became engaged, the Bajoran people celebrated, as they still thought of Sisko as a religious leader. However, the Prophets warned Sisko that he and Kasidy “could not walk the same path,” leading Sisko to believe that some harm would come to Kasidy. They married anyway, in a private ceremony on DS-9, deciding that their happiness was important to them, no matter what the Prophets said. Kasidy became pregnant, and she worried about the baby due to the Prophets’ previous warning, and Sisko reassured her “as the Emissary” that no harm would come to the child.
Kasidy was left a pseudo-widow when Benjamin Sisko left for the Bajoran Fire Cave, sacrificing himself to keep the Pah-wraiths from harming the Bajoran people. Though the man himself was considered Killed In Action, he later appeared as a vision, telling his wife (and unborn child), “maybe ... a year, maybe yesterday. But I will be back.” Kasidy’s current whereabouts are for the moment unknown, though one can only assume she has continued her freighter business, Kasidy Yates Interstellar Freights.

Losing his mother at the formative age of 11 caused Jake Sisko to be very close with his father. When Benjamin Sisko was assigned to DS-9, Jake went with him, initially not caring for the star base. All the goings-on enamored him to the place, stirring in him the nosy need to know everyone’s business. Quickly learning every corner with friend Nog, Jake Sisko knew all the rumors and gossip, pushing him towards becoming a budding journalist. Though he was surrounded by Federation officers, the son of the Commander showed no inclination towards enrolling in Starfleet, instead choosing a life dedicated to the arts. During the Dominion War, he
joined the Federation News Service as a war correspondent, staying on DS-9 while it was under Dominion control.
His friendship with Nog lasted from the first days they met, though Nog’s attendance at Starfleet Academy, to Nog’s and his sharing a room back on the space station. The two tried to understand women together, tried to understand life together, and grew up on the space station together. Though they took very different paths, they were always there for each other, even though their petty squabbles. After Jake tutored Nog in reading and writing, and encouraged him to follow his dreams of Starfleet, Nog came back and teased Jake about his horrible spelling, and dalliances with women.
Upon discovering Kasidy Yates’ shared love of baseball, Jake promptly introduced her to his father, who, as he purported, needed a girlfriend. After the Dominion War, it is plausible that Jake left for Earth to live with his Grandfather in New Orleans, although it is equally as likely that as a freelance journalist, he followed whatever story or rumors he picked up.

Keiko O'Brien (née Ishikawa) was a civilian botanist aboard the USS Enterprise-D and on the planet Bajor, later becoming the primary school teacher aboard the starbase Deep Space 9.
