Dauntless Mission 13: "Yadalla Prime"

From Federation Space - Official Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Mission Summary

The Dauntless was sent to Yadalla Prime due to recent tensions between the local governments. Star Fleet opted to extract Star Fleet civilians and other non-essential personnel along with sensitive equipment and data off the planet.

In addition, the ship was also charged with a covert operation as a favor to the Romulans to retrieve a Romulan Intelligence Agent that the Tal'Shiar does not know is in the capital city, his last known whereabouts. The Romulans in return, have offered to share any information that the operative may have attained.

When the Dauntless reached the planet, they found out that an unknown illness plagued Yadalla Prime, effecting only Romulans. On top of the illness, the planet also suffered major power problems.

The away who were sent were able to fix the power generators and the First Officer's away team was able to locate and extract the Romulan agent, whom was suffering from the mysterious illness. On board the Dauntless, Science and Medical Departments worked together in finding a cure using Ferengi blood. All Star Fleet civilians, personnel, and equipment were also successfully beamed aboard the Dauntless safely.

Captain Nathanael Lornak recording.

I am pleased to report that the Dauntless has successfully completed our mission to Yadalla Prime and is returning to Star Base Bravo with several civilian, Star Fleet Personnel and equipment as well as the Romulan Operative S'Ten. The Tal’Shiar has a strong presence there, but has made no outwardly hostile actions to Star Fleet personnel or Federation citizens.

We were able to detect several Tal’Shiar weapon batteries and other military equipment. I doubt the Star Fleet Base there could hold out if attacked. However, the Romulan agent we now have aboard has informed us that the Tal’Shiar is moving the equipment off planet due to other concerns. He also stated that the Tal’Shiar was responsible for the attack on our science station on Calder I a few months ago. He said they were looking for something that Star Fleet Intelligence had been hiding there. He would not elaborate any further on those two points and I am not sure I completely trust him.

The local government seems to be pro Tal’Shiar but I believe we may have swayed them a bit by helping find a cure for an unknown illness that was causing havoc on the Romulan populations on the planet as well as helping out with some infrastructure issues. Though the government leans pro Tal’Shair, I do not believe a majority of the planet’s citizens care for them. Hopefully, the Federation can sway them away from any affiliation with the Tal’Shiar.

The crew performed admirably and it is to their talents, skills and dedication that this mission was a complete success. No matter what the future has in store for the USS Dauntless, this crew will be ready.

After spending my valuable time sitting through two meetings and preparing away teams to beam down to Yadalla Prime; it is almost show time. This mission should prove to be one, a total success. Or two...a total cluster f*ck!

Captain Lornak wanted to speak to me privately in the Ready Room. Once I entered and was settled, he then informed me that not only are we tasked with extracting Star Fleet personnel and equipment as he told everyone else in the Observation Lounge. We are also tasked with finding and ultimately, pull out a Romulan spy.

If this spy wants to stay missing; he will stay f*cking missing. (An audible deep exhale) I have chosen Lieutenants Murphy and Eyles for this evolution as I believe they are best suitors for the job. The other teams will be directed by a senior officer once we beam onto the base to go over our plan of action. Hopefully we are not set up to walk into a trap; that is what I am most concerned about.

The Captain and I were informed by Commodore Feherty that the planet's power situation is struggling. To boot, Yadalla Prime is plagued with an unknown illness that is only effecting Romulans. This along with the power grid problems should give my team ample time to locate our Romulan 'double agent'.

(The sound of duffel bag's zipper could be heard)

Due to the confidentiality of information in this log. Captain Lornak will be the only person to have access if anything should happen to me.

Recording begins.....

My first assignment wearing Command Red as First Officer turned out to be....what is the term? [Theo cleared his throat] Different to say the least. The Dauntless was sent on a half hearted diplomatic mission to help out the planet, Yadalla Prime. Their power grids were failing and to boot, the Romulans on the planet were suffering from an unknown illness.

En route to Yadalla Prime, I was informed by Captain Lornak of a covert operation that I would lead. It appeared that a Romulan spook had viable information for Star Fleet. Delegating the task to me I had to choose a team. Lets say I wasn't too thorough on my search for qualified crew members. My choices were made out of my own comfort level, opting for Lt Eyles and Murphy. The latter being a friend.

Away teams consisting of all departments were sent pursuing their specialties. My team was donned in civilian clothing which didn't seem up to par with the locals in the Lower District of Navata. We were greeted by Commodore Feherty and his Vulcan Captain. The Captain had us change in raggedy smelling clothing in order to blend in with the locals. After leaving the base, local law enforcement mistaken us dreads and society, subsequently beaming us to the Lower District. How fortuitous!.

When we materialized in the ghetto we were then approached by a gaggle of hoodlums, wanting to desecrate our bodies for their own pleasure. [A loud cough could be heard in the background followed by a snicker.] We were then at our own devices to fight them off, ultimately getting help from cronies of the Romulan. Knowing who we were which was odd cause the hobo attire should have cloaked that, they brought us to where S'Ten was housed.

The sight of the poor man was terrible, he was obviously dying from the mysterious plague and needed to be beamed to the Daunty. That hitch went off without issue to our surprise. A Science Midshipman and El-Aurian Doctor on-board was able to find a remedy which happened to be Ferengi blood.....go f*cking figure.

Alas, the cure was sent to the hands of the Tal'shiar government. [Rattling of assorted items was heard.] Now for the interesting part.

Escorting the Romulan to the Ready Room, the information he divulged was mediocre at best. Wait, wait....that's not the best part. Captain Lornak decided to retire upon rendezvousing with the Cobalt, a Acamarian vessel. According to him, he was need to back to his homeworld to assist in efforts to sway them toward Federation allegiance. With a touch of a button, I was left as Acting Commanding Officer until we were reunited with the ever so beautiful Star Base Bravo.

I ordered shoreleave and here I am. In my quarters getting ready for a party I am financing on Bravo. Unfortunately for me, we have some drinkers to my end of event tab will skyrocket. This is Theodore Caldecott and until next time, safe journey.

Well, we made it to Yadalla Prime in perfect running order and, so far, quite safely. Minor scuffle on the impulse deck involving a new crewman, but he'll be sitting out the next week or so in the brig for that. No other dramas, really.

I've been assigned to the away team going to the surface. Mixed feelings about that... On the one hand, it'll be good to stretch my legs and see a civilian port again. Federation bases are great and all, but they all look the same.

However, the mission has... expanded somewhat compared to what we were warned to expect. The away team has grown accordingly. In addition to removing the Federation equipment and citizenry from Yadalla, we'll also be helping repair their planetary power network and seeing if we can't help them tackle a disease outbreak while we're here.

Since I cannot be there myself to repair their generators, I plan to send a junior officer with a small team. As soon as he gets here, I'll give him his assignment, and go and get changed for my own task 'downstairs'.

And try not to get my arse shot off when I'm down there.

More later.

Stardate 21408.20

Well, I didn't get my arse shot off. So there's that.

I have decided that I do not want to ever go on a covert mission ever again. Between Calder and Yadalla... I just hate what it does to me. If I have any say in joining one in future, I will decline in the strongest possible terms. SFI can hang, and send one of their own bloody operatives next time.

The transport of the base civilians to the ship went alright, despite a power grid hiccup halfway through. The department's hunting that particular ghost in the machine now. Waiting on word from the detachment sent to help out with the planet's power generators, and after they're back we are all set to leave.

Accrued a formal reprimand and a 'conduct unbecoming' citation. Given the circumstances, I soldily feel that I was let off lightly.

First mission out of the Corps... I must confess that it is harder than I thought to settle into this new routine. They handle things differently aboard this ship than we did in my old unit. Then again, that would be like comparing apples and pears with eachother. I do not dislike this, though. It has a certain appeal to it. Maybe this is why my cousins are all in Starfleet. I'll have to be sure to ask Jonathan the next time I see him. I heard he was promoted to Junior Grade, and is the Chief Medical Officer aboard the Getty. I do wish him all the best.

In any case, I digress. My role in the mission was insignificant. I am not complaining, though. It was a good first mission to observe my peers. I was sent down tot he planet in a fairly late stage, and shortly after arriving the crowd began to get out of control. Through the words of a Vulcan crewmember, they were pacified. After a majority of the crowd was transported to the Dauntless, it became clear that a child was missing. The Lieutenant had me beamed up again to assist in the search efforts there.

Before I could do anything, the child was found. I and a Petty Officer escorted it's mother to the child, who was hiding in an unoccupied VIP room. After that, it was back to the routine for me.

Midshipman Aaron Kobari's log Stardate: 21409.12

I had always wanted to say that. Only one day I hope to start it with captain. After reporting to the bridge for an assignment I had infringed on protocol by bringing my side arm and Duke with me onto the bridge. It seemed to go down well enough with the captain even though all other officers present had taken issue with it. Regardless my first assignment was to Lieutenant Ziegler the acting CSO. He assigned me to herd refugees that had been beaming from the surface to temporary accommodation aboard the dauntless. During the assignment a child a Ullian child with exceptionally powerful telepathic abilities went astray. It had been my intent to use internal sensors to track the child's unique life signs, however due to his powerful telepathic ability he had caused massive interference with most of the ships systems.

During the search an Ensign MaClendon had been assigned to track the child. After tracking the child to deck ten I rendezvoused with him and his team. The ensign seemed unable to control the situation and Lt.Ziegler relieved him and assigned command of the team to me.

After a search of the deck and assistance from medical personnel we located the child in unoccupied quarters. After trying unsuccessfully to reason with the child (he used a telekinetic strike to slam me against the wall. No injuries apart from some bruising.) we asked the child's mother to calm him. This was successful and we extricated them both afterwards.

On a personal note, I feel that ensign MaClendons issues with the higher ranking officers instructions and inability to control the situation jeopardised the safety of his fire team and the officers and crew present on the deck. With that said after being relieved he did seem to do a thorough job tending wounded personnel and assisting medical personnel on site.

After securing the child and the mother I returned along with my fire team and Duke to escort the remaining refugees to their accommodations. I also noted that the presence of a Ullian child this close to the border could represent a major tactical problem if the Tal'Shiar got their hands on him. Lt.Ziegler informed me that the child and his mother would be safe in federation custody.

The experience accrued will be invaluable to both my canine colleague and I.

Lieutenant Commander Griffin Wright

Well, things are finally wrapping up. This mission was full of some twists and turns, but in the end, I didn't fire a shot or raise a shield in self-defense. Covert passive scans and child-tracking - that sums up my role. I'll need to work that more eloquently for my official report...

Tapping could be heard in the background as the Commander jotted down some quick notes for the official mission report

Essentially, the mission was a success, hence the lack of need for firepower. We completed two away team missions and are close to finding a cure for a strange disease, with thanks to an odd Ferengi. I've been a coordinator up on the bridge as Murphy has led (and performed her own duties) a small tactical force on the surface. She took some injuries, but all-in-all, she's fine.

I detected military movement on the surface, but it went underground and we simply never could get a good reading on what was going on. This bothers me to no end. Something was going on, something important. A large convoy went into the forest, and simply disappeared. What are they up to? Thankfully while our forces did engage others on the surface, we faced no larger force such as the one that vanished.

Finally, as we transported civilians back on-board, a strong telepath child went missing, wreaking havoc on Deck 3. Power fluctuations, crew illness, and blocked communications were quite the nuisance. Security and medical teams did their job though, and deftly located the suspect, reuniting him with his mother. I was prepared, however, to contain the situation with an anesthetic gas which would have put the entire deck to sleep. Part of me is sad that I didn't have the chance to do so, as it could have proved satisfyingly effective.

Well, the FO claims that he'll be buying drinks on Bravo, so I should prepare for that. There's also the matter of my girlfriend waiting to "de-brief" me in my quarters. That should be... exciting. Good thing these logs are private.

[Inaudible sound of groaning] Welp. Back on Daunty. Uhhh. Let’s see if I can give you the low-down. We went to the surface –Caldecott, Eyles and I– to try and find a Romulan who’s a Starfleet sympathizer… or at least, a Romulan who’s against what they’re doing on Yadalla Prime, and willing to risk his life to talk to Starfleet about it. I wonder if he’ll request immunity.

So but of course it wasn’t easy. I mean, it’s not like I expected we’d go down, pick him out of a crowd and scoop him up. He didn’t even know who we were. And we couldn’t exactly go around asking for him. If this mission had been even more covert, we’d all’ve been transformed in Sickbay to look like damn Romulans. But even in civvies, we beamed down and we told we have to put on the civvies “donated” to us. Ugh those things were disgusting. They definitely had lice. It was a freaking miracle I had some place to hide my little modded phaser. I’m pretty sure we all burned those things or shot them out into space or something.

But like I was saying. We got down there, we changed AGAIN, and then were apprehended by some planetary police, who promptly forced us to go into what must’ve been the poorest district in the city. And when I say poor, I mean, “I thought North Philly was bad” kinda poor. Makes North Philly look like friggin Roxborough. And of course as Murphy’s Law applies to everything I do, we got in a street fight. I’ve no idea why, and have no idea how we managed to hold our own against… what, a dozen? At least? And then some suspicious couple came by and picked us up after we’d gotten the sh!t beat out of us, and took us to the Romulan operative.

The guy’s pretty sick, though. Whatever information he has, Theo better get it out of him quick, because there’s an awful virus thing going on down on the planet that …I think? Only affects Romulans. And it’s pretty lethal. I assume the Captain’s got all of Sickbay working on a cure. That’s the quote-unquote reason we came here in the first place, anyway. I think. Blah.

Well, I reported in to Griffin, and now I’m lying in bed trying not to think about the hundreds of little lice that had shortly been crawling all over me. Gonna go climb in the bath now. If I can move. Griffin said he’d be over in a bit.

My first mission here on the Dauntless has been interesting to say the least. With assistance from the Captain, First Officer, one of the senior medical staff, and of all people, Sarah, I discovered and developed a cure for a rare strain of Terothka virus on Yadalla Prime, created by mutation through contact with a harmless Ferengi illness. Funny enough, Sarah had encountered this exact case so many years ago, and was close to the cure. I’m glad I could help to finish some of her work. Speaking of her work, there’s also the matter of Subject 8721 and Starfleet Intelligence. Maybe that has something to do with her death. Or maybe she’s still… No. It’s been 13 years. She’s gone. If I haven’t heard anything by now, I probably never will. Still, I may have to ask the Captain about pursuing this further. Speaking of the Captain, I seem to have had very little interaction with him, and most of the crew so far. It’s not too concerning, considering I’ve only been on board for a short while, but I’ve yet to even meet my own Department Head. That being said, I pity the poor soul responsible for supervising me.

My first shore leave as a Starfleet officer is fast approaching, and I think I’ll use it to catch up on my book, and any correspondence I’ve missed. I haven’t really checked any of that for quite a while, so I expect nothing short of an avalanche. I’m sure Isaac, Lauren, and Mother will all have sent half a dozen each. On a similar note, hopefully Warren will get back to me soon. Starfleet may be a noble cause, but I still need to publish. Well, I should get down to the Holodeck. I’ve had the itch to sing, and my Klingon is probably a little rusty.

Medical

Lieutenant Dudley Bryson-Jones

Stardate 21404.20

I've made a very good start to my Star Fleet officer career as Chief Medical Officer of the Capital Ship USS Dauntless. We are on mission and orbiting Yadalla Prime. I have no idea where it is but we are here I believe. We are here because Uihvueri terrorists are using the planet to stage attacks against the Romulans. So the Tal'Shiar with no objection from the planetary government have set up a presence on the planet siting the need to protect the planet from and stop the Uihvueri. The Romulans themselves may not be officially there. They may stand apart from the Romulan government. Very interesting in deed.

The Dauntless is here to evacuate Star Fleet personal, and equipment, a simple operation of pick up and deliver somewhere else, so not mush to do for medical.

I have changed a few things in Medical, things seemed to have been organised with a distinctive Cardassian DNA. Perhaps that was so because the last CMO was a Cardassian. Apparently she didn't fare to well.

We will do basic medical checks on our passengers and fix the proverbial saw toes and little pinkies. Not what I envisaged Star Fleet would be like at all. Just ordinary run of the mill activities.

Star Fleet Medical has taken no action on my report of revealing classified medical information under extreme provocation, about a certain Lt to that same Lt Maggie Murphy with other officers present. That was a relief, I must say. I find that woman hard to tolerate, and I've only met her once.

Otherwise all is spiffing in Medical on the Dauntless.
