Chief Science Officer was a standard position aboard space vessels. [[Star Fleet]], [[Arkonian]], [[Klingon]], [[Romulan]], and [[Vulcan]] vessels all operated with Chief Science Officers. In the [[Vulcan High Command]], the Chief Science Officer was assisted by a [[deputy science officer]]. In Star Fleet, several [[Science Officer|junior science officer]]s assisted the Chief Science Officer.
According to Jadzia Dax, it was a Chief Science Officer's job to always have a "better idea."
