Bussard collectors are large electromagnetic devices located at the front of the warp drive nacelles of some or most Federation starships.
They create a large electromagnetic field used to attract interstellar gases that could be used as fuel by the ship's fusion reactors.
The typical gas collected is hydrogen (particularly used for fuel replenishment), but they can be reconfigured to collect sirillium and plasma particles.
These collected gases are then compressed and stored into holding tanks. Collection worked best in regions where particle density was high, such as in star systems or nebulae.
Bussard collectors can also be reconfigured for other uses, such as expelling gases.
